Using Frequent Blog Posts to Drive Traffic to your Website
Blogging has been touted as an effective content based approach to search engine optimisation and not without reason. Today's blogs do hold a lot of sway, with millions reading, updating and associating with blogs and the blogosphere on a regular basis. However, not all websites are sure of how to implement a blog based SEO strategy and those that do have good content very often fail to rank well because they're approach is flawed. Blogging can push web traffic to your site, increase visibility and have a social media impact as well.
The frequency of blog posts is what separates the successful from the rest in the blogosphere. Google sends its spiders back once it realises that your blog updates are coming in fast and regular. Of course, a certain freshness of content is required and so, while crafting your posts leave both your audience and the spider wanting to come back for the next one. The general consensus is one post a day or at least five a week with consistently good posts. Your blog posts should be relevant and topic driven to build up trust amongst a human audience.
Apart from frequent posts, there are other SEO ideas that can be used when blogging. Keep the keyword density at an optimal level. The keywords used should be between 5-20% of the post and never should keywords get in the way of good content. Similar to your normal web pages, keywords should be scattered across the title tags, headers, URLS, meta tags and images of your posts without spamming them. It is very important to use interesting titles that can hook an audience as well as bait the Google spiders. Keep your posts moderate in size, about 250 words long, unless the content is compelling enough to warrant a larger post.
Remember that blogs are meant to connect with people. Social contact and the social media can drive traffic to a website, but only as long as the content speaks with a human voice. Your blog can be dismissed and berated if your content is ridiculous and that can have serious ramifications on your online business. Make sure that whatever content goes up is your own, unique and interesting. Connect with other bloggers who are in a similar segment of your market and discuss ideas through the blogosphere. Generate a buzz that will lead traffic to your website.
